WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Florida CHAIN today named Mark Pafford as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer. Pafford is the current Florida House of Representatives Minority Leader and is completing his final term in the House, where he has served since 2008.
“At Florida CHAIN, we have been fortunate to have great leaders and a steady hand at the wheel through turbulent times for health care advocates in Florida,” said Florida CHAIN Board of Directors Chair Christine Fisher. “Today, we couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that Mark Pafford will serve as our new CEO. Mark has a lived a lifetime of service, and he will now bring his leadership and vision, strong policy and advocacy background, and unique understanding of the legislative process to the helm of Florida CHAIN.”
Pafford has served as House Ranking Member of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee and is the immediate past Minority Policy Chair, where he specialized in health care issues and worked across party lines advocating to close Florida’s coverage gap. He also has extensive professional experience working with health care and other nonprofits where he has been recognized repeatedly, especially for his advocacy for the elderly.
In recent years, Florida has been on the front lines of the national debate over health care reform. Florida CHAIN has played a critical role in helping to sign up more than a million Floridians on the HealthCare.gov Marketplace and advocating for nearly a million more still caught in the coverage gap.
“It is an honor to join the leading advocacy group for access to health care in a state where nearly a million people are still caught in the coverage gap,” said Pafford. “Florida CHAIN’s role becomes more important each day. I look forward to the challenge of increasing access to quality, affordable health care for all of my fellow Floridians.”
“Florida CHAIN owes a debt of gratitude to Lisa Grossman, our first Executive Director and an eleven-year veteran of the organization, for serving so ably as our interim CEO these past months while we took the time to conduct a thorough search for just the right person to lead us into the future,” said Fisher. “We look forward to Mark now leading our mission to increase health care access for every Florida family.”
Florida CHAIN is a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health of all Floridians by promoting access to quality, affordable health care. CHAIN stands for Community Health Action Information Network and should be capitalized. Florida CHAIN’s website is FloridaCHAIN.org.
