Florida CHAIN CEO Mark Pafford appeared on South Florida Sunday on June 12 to discuss the organization’s mission to increase access to affordable, quality care for Floridians. Host Tracy Saint George and Pafford discussed the more than three million Floridians currently living without health coverage, and approximately 600,000 residents who are in the coverage gap due to Florida’s failure to expand Medicaid.
As the Democratic leader in the Florida House of Representatives, Pafford also discussed successes during the 2016 legislative session. Lawmakers passed legislation to protect consumers from surprise medical bills and removed the five-year ban for legally residing immigrant children to enroll in state-sponsored health coverage. As he ends his tenure in office, Pafford encourage policy makers to join 31 other states and expand Medicaid in 2017.
